5 Of The Most Popular Blumhouse Horror Movies

If horror fans have enjoyed a smart and creative movie from the past ten years, chances are that it was made by Blumhouse Productions. The company is famous for putting out several scary films each year, from horror comedies like Happy Death Day to an interesting thriller like Ma.

In 2000, Jason Blum started Blumhouse Productions, and speaking once at SXSW, Blum said, “If I could make low budget movies independently and have the studios release the movies, that would be cool.” Fans are definitely thrilled with the films that the production company is releasing. While there are several beloved horror movies put out by Blumhouse, there are a few that are the most popular.

Horror fans are excited for Jordan Peele's new movie Nope and Get Out is one of the most celebrated Blumhouse horror movies of the last little while. The movie has a 98% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and an 86% Audience Score, and the story of Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) meeting his girlfriend Rose Armitage's (Alison Williams) family and learning their true nature is intelligent and inventive.

It's hard to think of a horror movie, past and present, that has nailed the combination of social issues with a genuinely scary story that keeps audiences on the edge of their seat.

Halloween Ends is a 2022 horror movie fans look forward to, and Blumhouse's Halloween trilogy has been a lot of fun for fans of the original 1978 film to check out. In 2018's Halloween, fans get to catch up with beloved horror final girl Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and see how she's doing after being terrorized by Michael Myers for so many decades. Fans also meet new characters: Laurie's daughter Karen Nelson (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson Nelson (Andi Matichak).

While it's hard to say that Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills are as good as the original film, it's still fun to revisit this world and to enjoy watching old characters come back to deal with the old threat of Michael. The second film also has a great performance by Kyle Richards, who played little Lindsey Wallace in the '70s film and who, of course, has become famous for being on Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

The setting of the horror movie Us is amazing, and Jordan Peele gave horror fans another incredibly smart and artistic movie in 2019. Us is another popular movie from Blumhouse Productions.

Lupita Nyong'o's character Addy is one of the best horror movie main characters and watching her family learn about doppelgangers is one of the most fascinating and fresh movie-watching experiences in recent years. While the movie does wrap up the plot by the end and explain how Addy is connected to the main storyline, there are so many smart layers to this film that it's definitely a good idea to watch it more than once.

There are some underrated found footage movies and then there's the Paranormal Activity franchise, which has become one of the most popular horror franchises ever, and it's also from Blumhouse Productions.

In the first movie, which was released in 2007, Micah (Micah Sloat) and Katie (Katie Featherston) realize that something creepy is going on in their home. The movie does something interesting: it acknowledges the paranormal presence from the very beginning. Audiences learn that Katie has been terrorized by a demon for many years and that it seems like the demon is back. When Katie and Micah film their house in the middle of the night, they see some awful and terrifying things. The movie has a pretty bleak, dark ending and the other films in the franchise follow different characters. According to The Guardian, the first movie's budget was only $15,000 and as of the publication's 2009 article, the movie had made $100 million in the United States. Paramount Pictures marketed the film and did a smart job, like with The Blair Witch Project.

Insidious is considered one of the scariest horror movies according to science and it's definitely easy to see why. Written by Leigh Whannell and directed by James Wan, the movie stars Rose Bryne and Patrick Wilson as Renai and Josh Lambert who realize that there's a supernatural force in their home.

There are some unique movies about ghosts and Insidious is a rare movie that is well done but also really popular. There have been three other films in the franchise, including the prequel The Last Key which came out in 2018, and each one makes it tough not to be scared of spending time in any house. The Insidious horror franchise has made $555 million globally, according to Forbes, which is so impressive.
