PlayStation Has a Massive 2022 Ahead of It

PlayStation had some great console exclusive games in 2021, with Deathloop, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal all standing out as must-have PlayStation exclusive games. However, PlayStation's 2021 was a bit bottom heavy, with its big games originally meant for later in the year pushed back to 2022. 2021's loss is 2022's gain, though, and now PlayStation is set up to have an absolutely incredible year.

PlayStation has not revealed the full scope of the console exclusive games it will have on offer in 2022, but even without knowing everything that's on the way, fans already have a lot to look forward to. Numerous console exclusive games have already been confirmed for release later this year, some with solid release dates and others with vague release windows, ranging from big budget triple-A games to smaller indie releases.

Here are the big PlayStation exclusive games currently confirmed for release in 2022.

PlayStation Exclusive Games 2022

The first PlayStation console exclusive release of 2022 is Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on January 28. A PlayStation 5 port of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Legacy of Thieves Collection will come with some additional bells and whistles to make it worthwhile for PS5 gamers. The collection is also going to make its way to PC at some point in 2022, though a specific release date for that version of the game has yet to be announced.

Being able to relive Nathan Drake's final adventure on PS5 is no doubt going to be appealing to many PlayStation fans, but others may be more concerned with brand new adventures. Luckily, they don't have to wait too long into 2022 to play a completely original game. February 8 will see the release of Sifu on PS4 and PS5, a PlayStation console exclusive martial arts game with a unique gimmick. In Sifu, dying ages the player character, eventually resulting in a permanent game over.

Then February 18 will see the release of the long-awaited Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to the critically-acclaimed PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn. Horizon Forbidden West will feature protagonist Aloy exploring new locations and battling a variety of new machines. It will be available for both PS4 and PS5, with Horizon Forbidden West gameplay looking especially impressive in the PS5 version of the game.

March will see a couple of PlayStation console exclusives release, with Babylon's Fall dropping March 3 and Gran Turismo 7 releasing a day later on March 4. Babylon's Fall is an action-RPG developed by PlatinumGames and Square Enix, whereas Gran Turismo 7 is the latest entry in Sony's long-running racing game franchise. The Gran Turismo games have been pretty consistently high-quality experiences, and so the bar is quite high for GT7, which will have both PS4 and PS5 versions available for fans to check out.

The last PS5 console exclusive with a specific release date for 2022 is Forspoken, which is another console exclusive published by Square Enix. Forspoken is going to be available on PC and PlayStation 5 only when it launches on May 24, and it looks like it could be one of the more impressive games in the lineup.

Other PlayStation console exclusives confirmed for 2022 are currently without specific release dates, so it will be interesting to see if they are released in the first half of the year or if fans have to wait until later in 2022 to get their hands on them. In any case, the Bethesda-published Ghostwire: Tokyo should be one of the first released, as it's currently scheduled for a Q1 or Q2 launch. It's the latest game from Tango Gameworks and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, so there's quite a bit of hype behind it.

And of course, PlayStation gamers will get to play God of War: Ragnarok in 2022 as well. Like Horizon Forbidden West, God of War: Ragnarok was meant to launch in 2021 before its release date was pushed back to an undetermined point in 2022. Fans are still waiting on an official release date for the game, but regardless it's set to be the premiere PlayStation exclusive of the year. The 2018 God of War game was critically-acclaimed and hailed as one of the best video games ever made, and with God of War: Ragnarok capping off the Norse saga, chances are it will be incredible, too. Gamers on both PS4 and PS5 will get to check it out as it's another cross-gen release.

PlayStation fans also have smaller games like Goodbye Volcano High, Stray, and Tchia to look forward to in 2022 as well. But while these games may not be quite as over-the-top as some of the other PlayStation console exclusives scheduled for 2022, they all have potential to be some of the more compelling video game experiences of the year. PlayStation fans will just have to wait and see how they turn out, but expectations are high.

Multiplatform PS4 and PS5 Games for 2022

This is by no means a comprehensive list of all the multiplatform games launching for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022, but it does highlight some of the bigger releases. There are numerous high profile multiplatform PS4 and PS5 games that already have release dates, with Rainbow Six Extraction launching January 20 followed by Dying Light 2 Stay Human on February 4. Elden Ring on February 25 will be an absolutely massive release for the industry at large, with hype incredibly high for FromSoftware's upcoming open world game.

March will have some notable game releases as well, with Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin serving as a Souslike take on the FF franchise on March 18 followed by Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina's Wonderlands on March 25. The Saints Row reboot is coming on August 23, and then many of the other multiplatform PS4 and PS5 games on the way for 2022 are currently without concrete release dates.

While it's entirely possible some of these games will get delayed and pushed back to 2023, it's also possible that they will all meet their 2022 release windows. If so, then 2022 is going to be truly massive for the PlayStation brand. Some of the big games on deck for 2022 without specific release dates include the Dead Space remake, co-op DC Comics game Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Batman: Arkham studio Rocksteady, Marvel's Midnight Suns strategy game from the XCOM developers, the highly-anticipated Hogwarts Legacy, and more.

Based on the multiplatform PS4 and PS5 releases scheduled for the year and the PlayStation console exclusives on the way, it's clear that 2022 is going to be massive for PlayStation. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. PlayStation has yet to reveal everything that it's releasing in 2022, with fans having to tune in to PlayStation State of Plays to learn more. There's even a chance that the PlayStation VR 2 hardware will drop this year, so there should be no shortage of things for PlayStation fans to look forward to in the months ahead.
