New Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer Finally Includes Darth Vader Scene

May 4th marks Star Wars Day around the globe. As fans everywhere will be bingeing Star Wars films and TV shows or playing Star Wars games, Disney has chosen to celebrate by giving fans the new Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was initially announced in August 2019, with Ewan McGregor reprising the title role. A year later, Hayden Christensen was also announced to return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Other cast members for the Star Wars show include Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, and O'Shea Jackson Jr. Plus, Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse are reprising their roles from the prequel films.

The series is reportedly set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan Kenobi is living in exile on Tattooine, looking out for a young Luke Skywalker. At some point, he finds himself setting out on another grand adventure. Though descriptions are vague, fans have been eating up all trailers that have been released. Fans have also known about Darth Vader's return for some time, but the latest Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer finally teases the first footage of the Dark Lord of the Sith, with his chest plate and unmistakable breathing included in the preview.

An Obi-Wan Kenobi project has been anticipated and asked for by fans for many years. When Lucasfilm initially announced the project in 2013, it was to be a standalone spinoff film. In a poll conducted three years later by The Hollywood Reporter, Obi-Wan Kenobi was cited as the overwhelming favorite in characters fans felt deserved a spinoff film. However, following the commercial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, all of Lucasfilm's anticipated spinoff films were canceled. The company instead chose to focus on their Disney Plus content, such as the hugely successful The Mandalorian. In the space between the original film being canceled and Obi-Wan Kenobi being formally announced, McGregor was always attached and interested in reprising his role.

A previous trailer released was extremely well-received, with fans feeling that it captured the desired nostalgia for the prequel films that the new series would need to be successful. Fans also noted an impactful use of John Williams' original score and were excited to see that Williams is scoring Obi-Wan Kenobi's theme as well. The rest of the score will be done by Natalie Holt, who will be the first woman to score a live-action Star Wars project. The new trailer captures the same mood and tone, with deeper looks at a worn and haggard Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney Plus on May 27, 2022.
