Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Karen Gillan has shown off the makeup for her character Nebula in the upcoming sequel film. Nebula looks to be receiving a lot of combat scars based on what fans can see.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will pick up where the characters left off after the climatic moments in the most recent Avengers film. The heroes left Earth with the Norse God of Thunder Thor joining as an honorary temporary member. It's unclear whether he will be a main character or only have a quick cameo, but it's good to see Marvel Studios utilizing all of their characters.
Regardless of how much Thor will be present in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, one thing is certain, and that's the battle scars the heroes will be having. Karen Gillan showed off a post that highlighted the makeup department's work by showing the scars her cyborg hero will have when the film releases in theaters. Her character is known for being battle trained and a veteran fighter, so this damaged look is probably not all too surprising.
Nebula has typically received the worst brunt of everything. Being neglected by her father, fighting against her sister and being forcefully transformed into a killing machine isn't the brightest backstory. After seeing Thanos die, she felt a breath of fresh air by not having to look over her shoulder anymore with her father being wiped from existence. Now that she has a new path ahead of her, it looks like fans will see a new revitalization of the character, but that doesn't mean she won't be in some intense action scenes.
Hopefully Nebula sticks around for the long run, as she is very much becoming a fan favorite character following her redemption arc. She managed to beat death, escape despair and now has everything in front of her as she tries to reconnect with her adoptive sister Gamora in what will be an interesting tale. This Gamora isn't the main Gamora from the original movies. This one is from the past, so she doesn't have the memories of the Gamora who fans know. Conversely, the past version of Nebula has died, so seeing these two interact will be an interesting feat on its own.
It's not close to time for promotion, as Marvel Studios is gearing up for the big Doctor Strange 2 release, which is looking to top the impact of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Doctor Strange sequel will incorporate the multiverse, so there's a big potential for many things to happen that will change the course of the MCU moving forward. Hopefully this opens the door for the X-Men or even The Fantastic Four to come into the fold.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.
