Free PS Plus Games for January 2022 Are Available Now

One of the main perks of being subscribed to Sony's PlayStation Plus service is the ability to claim free games every month. The first Tuesday of each month brings with it a fresh batch of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers to snag, and as of Tuesday, January 4, PS Plus subscribers have the first free PS Plus games of the new year that they can add to their digital libraries.

The free PlayStation Plus games for January 2022 are available to claim now, replacing the free PS Plus games for December 2021 as well as the bonus free PlayStation VR games that were up for grabs for a couple months to celebrate the headset's 5th anniversary. Subscribers are back down to three free games for January, with users able to claim the PS4 and PS5 versions of Deep Rock Galactic and Dirt 5 as well as Persona 5 Strikers on PS4.

The free PS Plus games for December 2021 came under some fire for not including the PS5 version of Mortal Shell and for giving away a stripped-down version of looter-slasher Godfall, but it seems that Sony has avoided making a similar mistake with the January lineup. The native PS4 and PS5 versions of both Deep Rock Galactic and Dirt 5 are readily available and while Persona 5 Strikers does not have a PS5 version, it's still playable on Sony's next-generation console through backward compatibility.

As for what the games are, Deep Rock Galactic is a co-op game where players mine for resources all the while fighting back hordes of alien creatures. Some have compared Deep Rock Galactic to Left 4 Dead, so PS Plus subscribers needing a new co-op experience should be happy to see it make the lineup. Those on PS5 may be especially interested, as Deep Rock Galactic has PS5 exclusive features through the DualSense controller.

Dirt 5, meanwhile, is well-received racing game and the latest entry in the long-running Dirt franchise. And finally, Persona 5 Strikers is a spin-off of Persona 5 that also serves as a sequel from a narrative standpoint.

The free PS Plus games for January 2022 will be available for subscribers to claim until Tuesday, February 1, at which point they will be replaced by the free PS Plus games for February 2022. Sony has not revealed any of the games that PS Plus subscribers will be able to claim next month, but fans will likely find out come Wednesday, January 26, as the next free PS Plus games tend to be announced on the last Wednesday of each month.
